Grain Bin Operations
At the end of July 2025 several of our members attend specialized grain bin rescue training hosted but Tennessee Association of Rescue Squad & Rescue Collage Instructor Brian Robinson.
The course was geared towards emergency responders who may be responsible for saving someone in situations of being trapped in a grain bin or storage facility.
The class trains individuals on not only the functionality of the grain bin itself but how to manage the dangerous conditions. It also teaches students how to properly care for the well-being of the victim.
One portion of the class was conducted in a classroom setting and the other taught as a hands-on experience.
“It could be anything from someone that’s on the top of the bin that’s having a medical emergency that needs to be evacuated. It could be someone that’s entrapped in a grain bin and with the entrapment they could be partially submerged where we can still see them. The person could be fully engulfed in grain where we can’t see them and at that point we have to take a different approach,” said Brian Robinson, State Training Coordinator.
After completion, students are deemed equipped to respond to grain bin rescues.
At the event, food was provided for free from various sponsors and the training was provided in part by the Gibson Co. Farm Bureau, Goddard Foundation, TARS, UT TSU Ext., Tyson Grain, and Silver Oaks Farms.
